How to Build a Brand on Social Media

Many times, social media is someone’s first introduction to your business. So what does that mean? You can use your social media pages, like Instagram, as a branding kit. Here’s how:

It all starts with strategy and messaging. How would you describe your company in one sentence? What is your brand voice? Do you want to stay positive and friendly? Or are you more serious and educational? What are your thoughts one emojis? Can you use them or are they off-limits? What is your color palette and logo? Do you want your logo to be present on all of your imagery? What are brand do’s and don’ts on social media? You’ll want to define this so that anyone who is managing your social media pages can stick to your brand guidelines.

Set up your page for success. Make sure to optimize your Instagram bio. Add your website, a clear, concise and catchy description, and contact details. These are quick and easy ways to start the branding process on Instagram.

Create a style guide for imagery and photos. This is key to ensuring that your page looks both aesthetically pleasing and matches your brand guidelines. Do you want a more curated look? Will you be designing images in Photoshop, or do you want to use real images? Same for video. You can use tools like Canva to create images and video for your social media pages.

Plan ahead. I can’t stress this enough. Creating one post per day just won’t cut it, and you’ll rush through creating the posts which most likely means that branding will be off. Create content ahead of time and schedule it. You’ll thank yourself in the future.
